HIGHLIGHTS

Greenery at the Haus des Meeres Street art Sandwirtgasse Green façade of MA 31 (Vienna Water)

Our tour begins at a former flak tower, which is not only home to thousands of sea creatures and plants, but also a sensational climbing wall and, most recently, the highest greened public wall in Vienna: a 35-metre-high façade greening with 8,500 plants in 750 troughs.

Along the way, climbing plants of all kinds twine up the walls and across building boundaries like urban stories. This not only pleases the eye, but also contributes to climate protection in the district: wild vines on historic houses, a sophisticated façade garden at the headquarters of the Vienna Municipal Water Department. We discover green oases and gardens – and the municipal buildings are anything but gray!

Street art also enlivens the (in summer) hot facades, tells district stories and focuses on current issues. And on buildings from the past!

During our stops, there will be an opportunity to reflect critically and playfully on how sustainable the greening projects are and how we can all make the city greener and more colorful.
