Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus is the outer district in Vienna with the fewest green spaces, but is nevertheless a pioneering district in terms of climate mitigation and adaptation. On the tour across the district we learn about some of the innovative climate protection measures. In the process, we pass by the first zero-energy balance hotel in the world, the first bicycle street, as well as the first sponge street in Vienna. What other green environmental projects are planned for the future?
The walk starts in the Nibelungenviertel and continues all the way to Reindorf. We will explore the development in the neighborhood around the new IKEA building as well as the future urban development area “Westbahngründe”.
On the tour we also take a look at the eventful past of the district again and again. We will experience firsthand where the double name of the district came from and what this subdivision means for everyday life to this day. In the footsteps of Jewish Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus, we visit the memorial site in Turnergasse, where one of Vienna’s important temples was once located.
At the end of our walk, another surprise awaits us: The little-known urban wilderness in Auer-Welsbach Park, a wonderful place to linger and enjoy.
We also discuss which sustainable projects are planned or realized in the future.
