HIGHLIGHTS
On this tour, we encounter a city that is constantly evolving and growing. We look at different phases of urban development in Vienna over the course of time and ask ourselves the central question of which developments make the city more pleasant and liveable in the long term.
The walk takes us from the Belvedere district via the Schweizer Garten and the Arsenal to the Sonnwendviertel. We circle around the main railway station. It was built on the site of the historic Südbahn and Ostbahn stations, which were the first key drivers of urban development in this area back in the days of the monarchy. We get a particularly good view of the station area from the Arsenal footbridge, which recently connected Vienna’s third and tenth districts and is reserved exclusively for cyclists and pedestrians.
In the Sonnwendviertel district, we are focusing in particular on building groups and neighborhood houses and the added value that they create for the district beyond their building site. We also take a closer look at the Bloch-Bauer-Promenade and its climate-friendly concept.
