Belvedere Garden Schwarzenbergplatz High-jet fountain Vienna River regulation Resselpark on Karlsplatz
Urban parks and historic gardens are important parts of our cultural landscape that has evolved over the centuries. They not only reduce heat, but also improve air quality and are valuable recreational areas for the Viennese population. Our tour starts at the entrance (Gürtelstraße) to the world-famous Belvedere Palace Gardens and takes us via Schwarzenbergplatz to Resselpark on Karlsplatz, where our tour ends under the canopy of leaves. Find out what effects climate change is having on green spaces and what strategies need to be developed to preserve these valuable oases of recreation for the Viennese. Not only the historical background plays a role here, but also how the green spaces have changed over the course of time and what significance they still have for the city and its population today. After all, the ever-increasing climate change not only requires increased maintenance, but also a rethink of how we deal with plants and water.
